Places

Visby, Gotland

The rose-lined, walled city of Visby, mostly on island of Gotland, is a big attraction for tourists from all over the world. Quaint cobblestone streets wind through the city, and it is all too easy to lose your sense being in the world today while exploring it. Many mediaeval trading houses, as well as some timber constructions from the 17th and 18th centuries, remain decorated with stepped gables. Clearly, the recognition of Visby as ‘the pearl of the Baltic’ and the role of the UNESCO World Tourist Area are both fine.

Oresund Bridge, Malmo

A 15-minute drive brings tourists to the majestic Oresund Bridge from Malmo city centre. After its completion in 1999 and several decades of preparation, the structure has gained more popularity through the hit Danish/Swedish TV drama ‘The Bridge.’ This incredible engineering feat is now linking Sweden with Denmark and, in turn, the continent of Europe. The bridge is both rail and road, and merges into a tunnel on the Danish side so as not to affect aviation in Copenhagen.

Abisko National Park, Lapland

The Midnight Sun Country, with 24 hours of daylight for several days. The size of the park is about 77 square kilometres and is renowned for its magnificent natural beauty and Nordic wildlife. It’s a perfect location for winter trips in sweden and for wonderful summer hikes. Abisko is located about 100 kilometres west of the town of Kiruna and is inside the auroral oval, a special place where the Northern Lights are more likely to be seen, more than 200 kilometres beyond the Arctic Circle.
